Maria V. Snyder is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style. Her way of describing things. I love the settings she writes about and her wicked imagination and ability to weave an intricate story. She continued to do that here in the second book of the study series.I understand why some readers preferred Poison Study to this novel. That being said, I am not one of them. I loved a lot of the characters that were introduced in Magic Study. My favorite being Kiki the horse and Yelena's ability to communicate with her and Topaz. I also enjoyed Fisk the beggar child and seeing more of Irys. And let's not forget Moon Man, Yelena's story weaver. I missed Valek, Ari, and Janco as well but I felt this book stood well on its own and the plot was just as strong as the first novel, if not stronger. But really, I adored the scenes with Kiki. I love that horse. And I hope Kiki is included just as much in the next and last novel of the series. I love all the names she comes up with for the humans. Especially Valek's name, Ghost. And I hope Yelena finally figures out where she fits in her world. It can be a scary thing, feeling like you don't belong in any one place in particular.
